Hegseth, a “Fox and Friends” weekend co-host who served in the National Guard for 20 years and made multiple combat deployments, was announced Tuesday night as Trump’s pick to run the Pentagon. Jennings said that the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan and the attempt to deploy a mobile pier in Gaza called the insiders’ competence.
“Does anybody have confidence in the current leadership of the Pentagon and the way the defense situation has been operating for the last several years?” Jennings asked the panel. “I mean, from the Afghanistan pullout, which was an extreme debacle for which no one was held accountable, we’ve had spy balloons flying over the United States, we built the $300 million pier as a public relations stunt which wound up killing an American service member.”
“I would say I’ve had just about enough of the so-called ‘insiders’ running the Defense Department, I think we ought to give Pete Hegseth a chance.” Jennings continued, prompting journalist Carl Bernstein to ask, “You think that’s about insiders?”
Jennings referenced the thirteen service members who were killed in an Aug. 26, 2021 bombing as American forces were evacuating from Kabul, as well as a pier built to deliver relief supplies to Gaza, which cost taxpayers over $230 million and was operational for just a few weeks, during which one soldier died of injuries sustained while operating the pier.
“All the criticism of him is that he is not the expected Washington pick and I am just saying to you that the American people just voted against the expected Washington pick,” Jennings responded. “He has 20 years in service, Afghanistan, Iraq, two Bronze Stars, Princeton, Harvard. Yeah, he is on TV, but so are the rest of us. I think he ought to be given a chance.”
Trump previously announced that former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe would be nominated as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency and that Republican Rep. Michael Waltz of Florida, a former Green Beret, would serve as national security advisor.
Since Trump won both the Electoral College and the popular vote, Democrats have had a wide range of reactions and responses to their party’s loss. On “The Victor Davis Hanson Show,” Hanson stated that Trump will bring a “return to normalcy” regarding illegal immigration, noting that Democrats will most likely push back.
“But I will issue a warning to everybody, you haven’t seen the left. When you start deporting people, even with a criminal record, they’re going to be on CNN weeping and crying. They’re going to be on the internet [saying], ‘This is like Hitler.’ So brace yourself,” Hanson said.
Hanson went on to state that while he believes some sanctuary cities may push back against federal penalties for not assisting in the deportation of illegal immigrants, liberals won’t be able to blame a lack of federal funds.
“If you say that a sanctuary city is not going to get [money] — if it insists and it will not get certain types of federal funds [then] people say, ‘Oh, my daughter was killed on the freeway because it wasn’t fixed,’” Hanson added. “The same left-wing mind that looks over here at High-Speed Rail, this Stonehenge six miles from my house — $15 billion — nothing. There’s the most dangerous freeway in the world parallel to it, the 99.” […]

1 — Harris failed to craft a unique message that separated her from President Joe Biden. From day one, Harris should have made it clear that she represents a new generation of leadership. Showing humility, she should have taken responsibility for some of Biden’s failures, while promising to do better. Instead, in one example, Harris refused to apologize to Alexis Nungaray, the mother of Jocelyn Nungaray, who was murdered by an illegal immigrant let into the country because of Harris’ border mismanagement. Naturally, this rubbed voters the wrong way.
While Democrat strategists are making excuses for Harris’ failure to distance herself from Biden, Harris could have leveraged the need to remain loyal to Biden as a strength. Her message should have been that she worked with Biden, understands how his generation of leadership operates, and therefore would be able to transition into a better vision for leadership. Instead, in what was perhaps one of the worst lows of Harris’ campaign, Harris stated that “not a single thing comes to mind” when asked what she would do differently than Biden. This conveyed to voters that Harris would be a continuation of the failed Biden administration.
2 — Harris did not put forth a compelling vision for the American people.
Americans typically vote for a vision. In 2008, Americans voted for Barack Obama based on the vision of: “Change we can believe in.” With this vision, Obama is often credited with revolutionizing political campaign marketing while using innovative marketing tactics. He became a household name through a vision for “hope and change” and “post-partisanship.” It was a vision that, while ultimately introducing a new type of divisiveness, captured the pulse of the public and met people where they were after Bush’s failures. Beyond the Obama era, Trump took political visionary marketing to a new level with his “Make America Great Again” movement, a vision that has endured for a decade. […]

Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris last week, securing more than the 270 electoral votes necessary to win the presidency. During an appearance on the Fox Business Network, Tenney accused James of trying to “take Trump out.”
“[Trump] could have done all kinds of things. He could have referred Hillary Clinton, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, all those people, [James] Comey, everybody, he did not do that. And who’s the one that didn’t make [the] enemies list and didn’t prosecute people who committed actual crimes?” Tenney told host Larry Kudlow, a former Trump administration official. “Instead of using all these people, these state operators like in Georgia, New York State, the… shameless, shameful, shameless Letitia James and all these people trying to take Trump out now.”
“Those people, actually, Letitia James needs to be disbarred and removed from office for the kind of behavior we’re seeing out of her, and I’m a member of the New York bar and it’s just shameful,” Tenney continued.
James, during her 2018 campaign for the office, promised to investigate Trump. She labeled him an “illegitimate president.” James sued Trump in September 2022, alleging he overstated the value of real estate holdings in order to obtain loans. […]

He had that right.
Climate change fanaticism was effectively on the ballot last week. That green energy agenda was decisively defeated.
It turns out the tens of millions of middle-class Americans who voted for Trump weren’t much interested in the temperature of the planet 50 years from now. They were too busy trying to pay the bills.
The result shouldn’t be too surprising. Polls have shown climate change ranks near the bottom of voters’ concerns. Jobs, inflation and illegal immigration register much higher on the scale of concerns. […]

During a phone interview with NBC News, Trump stated that “there’s no price tag” to his promised deportation plan. He said that he’d initiate an unprecedented immigration crackdown from his first day in office, aiming to deport those in the U.S. illegally, particularly individuals with criminal records.
“It’s not a question of a price tag. It’s not — really, we have no choice. When people have killed and murdered, when drug lords have destroyed countries, and now they’re going to go back to those countries because they’re not staying here. There is no price tag,” Trump said, according to NBC News.

Trump says he’ll depend heavily on local law enforcement to deport people, although coordination with federal agencies will be essential, the outlet reported. During the same interview, Trump also expressed a welcoming stance toward legal immigration and discussed the need for a robust and secure border. He maintained that the country should remain open to newcomers who respect its laws.
“We obviously have to make the border strong and powerful and, and we have to — at the same time, we want people to come into our country,” Trump said. “And you know, I’m not somebody that says, ‘No, you can’t come in.’ We want people to come in,” Trump said, according to NBC News.
Despite efforts by Democrats to sway Latino voters, his support among Latino men has surged, according to a CNN exit poll. Trump led Vice President Kamala Harris by 12 points among Latino men, however Harris won over Latino women by 22 points.
Trump secured the 270 electoral votes necessary to win the presidency early Wednesday morning, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris. Turley said that Democrats’ efforts to “pack” the Supreme Court would be on hold, while landmark rulings celebrated by conservatives would be cemented for at least a decade, with Republican control of the Senate and Harris’ defeat making it difficult for Democrats to stop the confirmation of new justices appointed by Trump.
“The Supreme Court dodged a bullet in that you had Democratic senators saying they wanted to pack the court,” Turley said. “One of them said that Kamala Harris was in support of that plan. That would have really been devastating to the court. But now, you also have a little more breathing room. For justices like Clarence Thomas, who is getting older, and maybe Samuel Alito, they have a safe harbor period in which they can get a replacement who will be in their jurisprudential views.”
“My guess is one or both of them could very well use that. This is a margin that would guarantee that type of transition,” Turley continued. “The other big change, of course, is that many of the things they have done over the last few years are now going to be cemented. The issue of abortion will remain with the states. Gun rights will remain robustly defended. So will religious freedom cases. So you’re not going to have a change for at least a decade or so, very likely, in the makeup of the court as being more conservative.”
Liberals and some Democratic lawmakers called for the expansion of the Supreme Court in the wake of a series of rulings in 2022, a move supported by a majority of Democrats, according to a poll released at the time. The rulings included upholding a Mississippi law restricting abortion after the 15th week of pregnancy, striking down New York’s restrictive “good cause” requirement for concealed carry permits and limiting the steps the Environmental Protection Agency could take with regards to regulating so-called “greenhouse gasses.” […]

Black voters made up 25% of the Georgia electorate and 18% of the North Carolina electorate in early voting as of Wednesday, marking a significant decline from 2020 when they accounted for 29% and 19% of the electorate, respectively. The decline in black turnout poses a serious threat to Harris’ chances in the southern battlegrounds, with Democratic political operatives noting that if the party is unable to reverse the trend come Election Day Harris could face a difficult path to victory in the states.
“This feels like a canary in the coal mine,” Michael Bitzer, politics and history professor at Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina, told Axios in reference to the Tar Heel state’s lag in black turnout.

However, other trends in the southern battlegrounds look promising for Harris, including an increase in early voting in North Carolina among suburban voters. Democrats have argued support among suburban voters will be crucial to the Vice President’s chances in the state, with Harris receiving 51% support from the constituency compared to Biden receiving 39% support in 2020. Republican nominee Donald Trump has a 7-point advantage among independent voters in Georgia, a battleground state where President Joe Biden held a 9-point advantage among this voter bloc in 2020, Chalian said while citing exit polls. The vice president currently holds the same 4-point lead that Biden had among independents in North Carolina, though Biden ultimately lost the state to Trump by 2 points in 2020.
“Among independent voters in our poll, Trump has a 7-point advantage in Georgia,” Chalian said. “In Georgia in 2020, Biden won independent voters by 9 points. So that’s a potential warning sign there for Harris. Black voters in Georgia in our poll, 71 percentage point advantage for Harris, that’s about where Biden was, he was at 77 points in the exit polls in terms of his advantage over Trump … In North Carolina, let’s look at these same groups here. Among independent voters, Harris has a 4-point over Trump in our poll. That’s where Biden was with independent voters in the exit polls in 2020. Remember, he lost North Carolina in 2020 by a narrow margin.”
Harris’ lead among black voters in North Carolina stands at 59 points, which is substantially lower than Biden’s 85-point lead in 2020, Chalian said. Trump’s lead among non-college educated white voters fell from 59 points in 2020 to 34 points currently.
“This is a huge potential warning sign,” Chalian said. “In the exit polls, Biden won the black vote in North Carolina by 85 percentage points, Harris, this is something she’s gonna want to watch for in the closing days. And then you see the non-college [white voters] here, this is perhaps a little bit of diminishment of support among Trump’s base than he had four years ago.” […]

Springfield attracted widespread media attention following viral online claims about Haitian migrants allegedly eating pets, and many longtime residents saying the vast influx of migrants has caused strain to the city’s infrastructure. However, the Republican governor on Wednesday said the thousands of Haitians who’ve made Springfield home are essential for the city’s job sector.
“I was asked the question several weeks ago: What would happen if all the Haitians were gone from Springfield?’ DeWine said during a press conference that pertained to declining overdose deaths in Ohio. “And the reality is that some of the economic progress that we have made at Springfield will go away.”
“Haitians came here to work,” the Republican governor said. “They were hired because there was work. They were hired because there were openings that could not be filled by companies.”
Springfield was thrust into the national spotlight in September after it was alleged on a social media page for local residents that a Haitian migrant had been spotted butchering a pet cat for consumption. That claim gained further attention when former President Donald Trump made mention of it it during his presidential debate with Vice President Kamala Harris. […]
