Rep. Dean Phillips, D-Minn., a guest on Fox News Sunday with Shannon Bream, said his voice and tens of millions of other Americans’ voices were ignored, suppressed and disenfranchised in this year’s presidential election. He announced in October 2023 that he was entering the Democratic primary race against President Joe Biden and in November that he was giving up his House seat after three terms. He said his voice was ignored.

Phillips was one of a very few Democrats who called on Biden to drop out of the race and make room for a new generation, months before that actually happened. “My voice, yes, was ignored, but tens of millions of Americans’ voices were ignored and suppressed and disenfranchised,” Phillips said, according to The Hill.

“I was not the only one that recognized what was likely to happen last week. I was the only one that was willing to say it live, and I think it is that culture of silence and pervasive incentives in our political system that is really costing our country and it’s not unique to one party or the other,” he said.

“No party has monopoly on ideas and I’m one of those getting sick and tired of it, trying to represent what I call the exhausted majority, center right, center left Americans who deserve better,” he said. […]

Trump’s Day One: A Look at His Opening Moves in the White House https://redwave.press/trumps-day-one-a-look-at-his-opening-moves-in-the-white-house/ https://redwave.press/trumps-day-one-a-look-at-his-opening-moves-in-the-white-house/#respond Mon, 11 Nov 2024 06:34:04 +0000 https://redwave.press/trumps-day-one-a-look-at-his-opening-moves-in-the-white-house/ President-elect Donald Trump made a multitude of “day one” promises throughout the campaign to begin work on an array of issues, setting himself up for an extremely busy first day back in office.

Many of his promises involve reinstating past Executive Orders that the Biden administration rescinded, and some entail advancing initiatives such as energy production. Others involve planning for a year-long anniversary celebration for the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Trump made headlines late last year during a Fox News forum with moderator Sean Hannity during which he promised that he would not abuse power or act as a dictator “except for day one.”

“We’re closing the border and we’re drilling, drilling, drilling. Other than that I’m not gonna be a dictator,” he quipped. His opponents took his quip literally, but in either event Trump’s day one promises extend beyond those two key issues. Here’s a look at what his first day in office may look like.

‘Salute to America 250’

One of Trump’s first planned moves is a relatively lighthearted and apolitical effort to celebrate a key milestone in American history. […]

Large Majority Oppose Noncitizens Voting in U.S. Elections: Polls https://redwave.press/large-majority-oppose-noncitizens-voting-in-u-s-elections-polls/ https://redwave.press/large-majority-oppose-noncitizens-voting-in-u-s-elections-polls/#respond Mon, 11 Nov 2024 01:20:17 +0000 https://redwave.press/large-majority-oppose-noncitizens-voting-in-u-s-elections-polls/ Polling has shown that a large majority of Americans oppose allowing non-U.S. citizens to vote in elections.

On Election Day, voters backed up that sentiment.

Eight states had citizen-only voting initiatives on their ballots Nov. 5. These initiatives passed by wide margins in each state.

Separately, a measure in Santa Ana, California, that would have opened the door for non-citizens to vote in citywide elections was soundly defeated.

“Voters in eight states sent a very clear and unmistakable message: Only citizens should vote,” Paul Jacob, a board member at Americans for Citizen Voting, said. “Every ballot measure passed by whopping margins.” […]

Rick Scott Gains More Endorsements for Senate Majority Leader, Including Sens. Rick Scott, R-Fla., is picking up some prominent endorsements for Senate Majority Leader, including Sens. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and Ron Johnson, R-Wis.

“President Trump needs Rick Scott as Majority Leader to shepherd his bold agenda through the U.S. Senate!” Johnson wrote on the social media platform, X.

Scott previously challenged Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., for leadership in the wake of the 2022 midterms, but was unsuccessful. McConnell plans to step down soon and Scott is vying against Sens. John Thune, R-S.D.; and John Cornyn, R-Texas; to lead the conference.

“I will be supporting Rick Scott for Senate Majority Leader,” Paul wrote on social media on Saturday. “The status quo of $2 Trillion annual deficits is unsustainable.”

Conservative leaders including Tucker Carlson, Turning Point USA President Charlie Kirk and grassroots activist Scott Pressler have endorsed Scott. […]

RNC Chairman Whatley Says Committee Is Still Monitoring Votes Being Counted In Swing States https://redwave.press/rnc-chairman-whatley-says-committee-is-still-monitoring-votes-being-counted-in-swing-states/ https://redwave.press/rnc-chairman-whatley-says-committee-is-still-monitoring-votes-being-counted-in-swing-states/#respond Mon, 11 Nov 2024 00:38:13 +0000 https://redwave.press/rnc-chairman-whatley-says-committee-is-still-monitoring-votes-being-counted-in-swing-states/ Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley announced Saturday that the committee is monitoring the votes that are still being counted in swing states.

“An operational update on Election Integrity: The RNC, our state parties and legal teams remain fully engaged in every state where votes are still being counted — including Arizona, Maine, Nevada and Pennsylvania,” Whatley wrote on the social media platform, X.

While The Associated Press called the presidential race in the swing states of Pennsylvania and Arizona, ballots are still being counted for the Senate races.

Pennsylvania Republican Senate candidate Dave McCormick filed two lawsuits earlier this week, challenging provisional ballots in Philadelphia, potentially taking the case to the Supreme Court. McCormick’s attorneys said that Philadelphia would adjudicate thousands of provisional ballots and asked to challenge them in groups instead of individually.

The Arizona Senate race between Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., and GOP challenger Kari Lake has not been called yet and has only 83% reporting, according to the AP. Lake is behind Gallego by 1.2 percentage points. […]

Don Bacon Projected to Keep His Swing Seat in Nebraska: AP https://redwave.press/don-bacon-projected-to-keep-his-swing-seat-in-nebraska-ap/ https://redwave.press/don-bacon-projected-to-keep-his-swing-seat-in-nebraska-ap/#respond Sat, 09 Nov 2024 13:59:42 +0000 https://redwave.press/don-bacon-projected-to-keep-his-swing-seat-in-nebraska-ap/ Moderate Nebraska GOP Rep. Don Bacon on Friday was projected to keep his seat in the state’s second district.

The Associated Press made the call at 6:11 p.m. Eastern, declaring Bacon the victor over Democratic challenger Tony Vargas.

The House race was one of the most closely watched Congressional races this year, where Democrats hoped to flip the seat. The swing seat is the most liberal of the House seats in Nebraska, and includes Omaha.

Bacon was first elected to the seat in 2016, and has since narrowly held the seat in subsequent elections. Vargas challenged him in 2022, but lost by approximately 2.2%, according to Fox News. Bacon, who has made a name for himself for being more moderate, is an Air Force veteran who retired in 2014 as a brigadier general.

The call comes as control of the House remains in question. But Republicans are leading Democrats with 212 seats to Democrats’ 199 so far. The parties need to win 218 seats to have control of the lower chamber. Republicans flipped the Senate on Tuesday, and took back the White House via President-elect Donald Trump. […]

Conservatives Rally for Rick Scott in Bid to Shake up Senate Leadership https://redwave.press/conservatives-rally-for-rick-scott-in-bid-to-shake-up-senate-leadership/ https://redwave.press/conservatives-rally-for-rick-scott-in-bid-to-shake-up-senate-leadership/#respond Sat, 09 Nov 2024 03:12:34 +0000 https://redwave.press/conservatives-rally-for-rick-scott-in-bid-to-shake-up-senate-leadership/ Prominent conservatives activists are throwing their support behind Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., to lead the upper chamber, hoping to install a prominent Trump ally instead of a more conventional Republican in the mold of Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Scott previously challenged McConnell for leadership in the wake of the 2022 midterms, but was unsuccessful. McConnell plans to step down soon and Scott is vying against Sens. John Thune, R-S.D.; and John Cornyn, R-Texas; to lead the conference.

The Florida Republican appears to have the backing of a cadre of conservative senators, many of whom opposed McConnell’s hawkish foreign policy efforts and are more closely aligned with Trump than the old guard GOP. Thune has urged President-elect Donald Trump to stay out of the leadership contest.

Conservative figures, seeing a potential second McConnell in either Thune or Cornyn, are increasingly vocal in their support for Scott.

“We want Rick Scott,” posted Catturd, one of the largest pro-Trump accounts on X. […]

Lurie, who has targeted Breed over her handling of the city’s homelessness crisis, is currently in first place, but 143,000 votes remained to be counted as of 5 p.m. Pacific time. Breed is in second, but former San Francisco interim mayor Mark Farrell, and Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin are also in the ranked-choice race.

Peskin is the only progressive candidate in the race and said he does not plan to concede the race, according to Politico.

Breed thanked her staff in a statement on Thursday, and promised to ensure a smooth transition for Lurie. The Levi heir outspent Breed in advertisements.

“Being Mayor of San Francisco has been the greatest honor of my lifetime. I’m beyond grateful to our residents for the opportunity to serve the City that raised me,” Breed said in a statement. “Today, I called Daniel Lurie and congratulated him on his victory in this election. Over the coming weeks, my staff and I will work to ensure a smooth transition as he takes on the honor of serving as Mayor of San Francisco. I know we are both committed to improving this City we love.” […]

“We really have no choice,” Morgan said on the Thursday edition of the “Just the News, No Noise” TV show. “I started my career out as a local cop and I can tell you local police departments [and] state agencies, they know their state and city better than any federal agency out there.”

He said that the U.S. needs to go back to “common sense” policies when it comes to immigration and sanctuary cities, arguing that local officials can and will be part of that.

“In what planet does it make sense that someone is the country illegally, commits a violent crime and then you’re going to protect that individual and release them back in your city and prevent them from being removed?” Morgan asked.

He added that ICE and local police stations have worked together in the past to remove illegal aliens from different states. […]

“We’ve been working for a year … preparing this playbook that we’ll talk about all the time for the next Congress,” Johnson told Axios as election results came in on Tuesday.

Johnson also said he would be elected as speaker again.

“So if we’re going to … run those plays and execute them with precision, you got to keep the quarterback on the field and keep the same team,” he also said.

Behind the scenes, House GOP campaign aides are reportedly confident the GOP will stay in control of the chamber. […]
