The Department of Justice (DOJ) continues to deliver prison sentences to individuals who were involved in the events on January 6 since the election. Among those sentenced was Matthew Leland Klein, a 27-year-old from Oregon, who was given a 90-day prison sentence along with three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to charges including felony and misdemeanor offenses. Christopher Maurer, a 45-year-old Maine resident, received a sentence of 50 months in prison and two years of supervised release for assaulting a law enforcement officer with a weapon during the attack. Similarly, Edward Richmond Jr., aged 40 from Louisiana, was sentenced to 51 months in prison and three years of supervised release for a similar assault charge.

Other sentences include Bryan Shawn Smith, a 37-year-old from Alabama, who was sentenced to 34 months in prison and three years of supervised release for assaulting officers, and Kyler Joseph Bard, a 27-year-old Missouri resident, who received a sentence of just over a year in prison followed by two years of supervised release for his role in the events on January 6.

According to Politico, attorneys general from six blue states are strategizing to counter any moves by Trump to use military resources to carry out deportations, including efforts to federalize the National Guard. The attorneys general are also preparing to challenge efforts to withhold federal funding from local law enforcement agencies that refuse to cooperate with federal deportation orders.

“There are ways to [handle immigration] that are in line with American values and conform to American law. But they don’t seem to be interested in pursuing that,” claimed New Mexico Attorney General Raul Torrez, according to Politico. The attorneys general are reportedly preparing briefs and analyses while determining the most favorable courts in which to file lawsuits. Salem Democratic City Committee chair Liz Bradt compared Moulton to a Nazi for making that observation. She said “several” of the Salem Dems are looking to oppose Moulton in his next primary, The Boston Globe reported. He has served his constituents since 2015 in a Democratic stronghold that encompasses the historic city so associated with witchcraft lore.
