Known for his critiques of President-elect Donald Trump, Cuban floated the idea of running for president with NBA legend Charles Barkley as his running mate.

“You’ve accomplished pretty much everything you want to accomplish. Have you, I know you’ve kind of pitter pattered around it. You ever seriously considered running for office?” Barkley asked Cuban.

“I did a little bit, four years ago in 2020, and I even talked to a pollster,” Cuban said. “Then I talked to my family; we took a family vote, and they said, ‘Hell no. We don’t want to go through that.’ My kids are like, ‘We don’t want to. No, we just don’t want to deal with it.’ And it’s even—it’s gotten meaner, you know. It’s not gotten easier; it’s gotten meaner. And, you know, just the hate on social media—and if your kids live on social media, why would I put them through that?”

“Would your feeling on a run for office change if it were, say, a ticket of you and the Chuckster?” Johnson asked.

“We’d win,” Barkley said. […]

Newsmax Ratings Surge as Single Show Beats Out Cnn’s Entire Lineup https://redwave.press/newsmax-ratings-surge-as-single-show-beats-out-cnns-entire-lineup/ https://redwave.press/newsmax-ratings-surge-as-single-show-beats-out-cnns-entire-lineup/#respond Wed, 04 Dec 2024 13:15:43 +0000 https://redwave.press/newsmax-ratings-surge-as-single-show-beats-out-cnns-entire-lineup/ Conservative-leaning news outlet Newsmax appears to be taking advantage of a post-election ratings decline for CNN, as the network pulverised its left-leaning competitor over the first two days of Thanksgiving week.

According to Nielsen ratings from Monday, November 23, Newsmax’s Rob Schmitt Tonight crushed CNN’s Erin Burnett OutFront in the 7 p.m. timeslot. On Monday, Schmitt’s program led the night with 520,000 viewers per minute, beating out Burnett’s 494,000.

Schmitt’s Monday ratings were so strong that they beat out “Anderson Cooper 360,” which drew 403,000 viewers per minute, as well as every additional show in CNN’s primetime lineup.

The lead widened on Tuesday, when Schmitt’s Newsmax show had 539,000 viewers per minute compared to 498,000 for Burnett. Newsmax’s flagship show also managed to surpass CNN’s viewership in every single hour of its programming wheel.

The trend is even more significant when considering the fact that CNN is available in 15 million more homes than Newsmax. CNN and other major networks also benefit from ambient traffic in gyms, waiting rooms and other public places, while they also pay for access to television sets in airports. […]

‘Morning Joe’ Hits New Low as Brutal Post-Election Slump Worsens https://redwave.press/morning-joe-hits-new-low-as-brutal-post-election-slump-worsens/ https://redwave.press/morning-joe-hits-new-low-as-brutal-post-election-slump-worsens/#respond Wed, 04 Dec 2024 12:50:39 +0000 https://redwave.press/morning-joe-hits-new-low-as-brutal-post-election-slump-worsens/ Once a flagship program for the network, MSNBC’s Morning Joe is facing its toughest test yet as viewers continue to tune out in droves. The ratings for the morning talk show hit new lows this week, further straining its position amid upheaval at parent company Comcast.

On Tuesday, Nielsen reported that Morning Joe attracted just 680,000 total viewers, a 12 percent drop from Monday’s broadcast. The program also struggled in the highly sought-after demographic of adults aged 25-54, drawing only 86,000 viewers — another 12 percent decline.

The figures mark a steep 38 percent drop in total audience and a 37 percent decline in the key demo compared to the show’s average for 2024. Tuesday’s broadcast was the third-lowest-rated of the year according to The Independent.

The timing couldn’t be worse for the long-running program hosted by Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski. On Wednesday, Comcast announced plans to spin off much of NBCUniversal’s cable channel lineup, including MSNBC and CNBC, as part of a strategic pivot to adapt to the ongoing trend of cord-cutting. Mark Lazarus, the present chairman of NBCUniversal Media Group, is set to become the CEO of the new company.

Lazarus stressed the benefits of this move on Wednesday, stating, “As a standalone company with these outstanding assets, we will be better positioned to serve our audiences and drive shareholder returns in this incredibly dynamic media environment across news, sports and entertainment.” […]

At Least 6 RINO Senators Plan to Block Crucial Trump Cabinet Nominee https://redwave.press/report-at-least-6-rino-senators-plan-to-block-crucial-trump-cabinet-nominee/ https://redwave.press/report-at-least-6-rino-senators-plan-to-block-crucial-trump-cabinet-nominee/#respond Wed, 04 Dec 2024 12:25:34 +0000 https://redwave.press/report-at-least-6-rino-senators-plan-to-block-crucial-trump-cabinet-nominee/ NBC News is reporting that at least six Republican Senators are balking at the idea of confirming Pete Hegseth, a veteran of the War on Terror and current host at Fox News who has been nominated to lead the Department of Defense by President-elect Trump.

Since Hegseth was announced as Trump’s nominee, he has been the target of numerous smear campaigns advanced by anti-Trump media outlets like the New York Times and NBC News.

Without evidence, mainstream media pundits have suggested that Pete Hegseth sexually assaulted a woman based on unproven allegations that were investigated by law enforcement and found to be without merit.

The accuser — whose identity is redacted — claimed Hegseth raped her in 2017 during a Republican women’s conference at a hotel in Monterey, California. According to the accuser, the alleged assault happened after conference organizers went to the hotel bar following an after-party towards the end of the conference.

A police report casts severe doubt on the claim, however, as several eyewitness accounts and surveillance videos suggest the two had a consensual sexual encounter. The accuser is married, and the report suggests the accusation was made in an attempt to hide infidelity from her husband, who was staying in the hotel at the time of the incident. […]

Biden’s Approval Drops to Historic Low Following Hunter Pardon https://redwave.press/new-bidens-approval-drops-to-historic-low-following-hunter-pardon/ https://redwave.press/new-bidens-approval-drops-to-historic-low-following-hunter-pardon/#respond Wed, 04 Dec 2024 10:51:49 +0000 https://redwave.press/new-bidens-approval-drops-to-historic-low-following-hunter-pardon/ President Joe Biden is facing sharp criticism following his decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, a move that has sparked widespread controversy and appears to have further eroded his public support.

According to a poll conducted by J.L. Partners, Biden’s approval rating has dropped to a historic low of 37 percent, marking a four-point decline from previous polls. The decision to grant clemency to his son, who has been embroiled in legal battles over tax and firearm charges, has drawn sharp rebukes from both sides of the political spectrum.

More than half of voters surveyed—54 percent—believe the president’s actions were wrong, undermining his repeated assurances that Hunter would not receive special treatment. The fallout extends beyond Biden’s approval ratings. The poll of 804 registered voters found that many Americans see the pardon as emblematic of deeper issues with trust in government.

Nearly 60 percent of respondents believe the move damages confidence in political leaders, with some comparing it to major scandals of the past. The poll, which was released on Sunday evening, revealed that 52 percent of participants believed Biden made a mistake in pardoning his son, while only 29 percent supported his decision.

Republican disapproval was big, with 79 percent opposing the pardon and just 13 percent in favor. Among Democrats, less than half—47 percent—supported Biden’s action, indicating a significant division within his own party. Overall, 54 percent of respondents indicated that the decision set a bad precedent, while only 10 percent believed it established a good one. […]

Never-Trump Liberal Host Has Post-Election Epiphany: ‘I’m More Optimistic Now’ https://redwave.press/never-trump-liberal-host-has-post-election-epiphany-im-more-optimistic-now/ https://redwave.press/never-trump-liberal-host-has-post-election-epiphany-im-more-optimistic-now/#respond Mon, 02 Dec 2024 12:25:26 +0000 https://redwave.press/never-trump-liberal-host-has-post-election-epiphany-im-more-optimistic-now/ Nearly a month after Donald Trump’s decisive victory over Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, a surprising sentiment has emerged from an unexpected source. Cenk Uygur, a progressive political commentator and host of The Young Turks, took to social media today to share his unexpected optimism despite his outspoken opposition to Trump during the campaign.

In a series of tweets, Uygur expressed a profound shift in his outlook, citing the defeat of what he described as “the establishment” as the catalyst for his renewed hope.

“I’ve been trying to figure out why I’m more optimistic now than I was before the election, even though I was so against the guy who won,” Uygur wrote. “I know now. MAGA is not my mortal enemy (and neither is the extreme left). My mortal enemy is the establishment. And they have been defeated!”

Uygur’s comments come in the wake of an election that many viewed as a referendum on the political elite. Trump’s populist campaign once again resonated with voters across the nation, particularly in key battleground states, where his promises to challenge entrenched power structures galvanized support. Harris, on the other hand, was painted by critics as a continuation of Democratic establishment politics.

The progressive host’s reflections extended beyond the political arena to media influence, an area Uygur has long scrutinized. […]

Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) shared details about her plans for a brand new House subcommittee tasked with cutting wasteful government spending and redundant bureaucracy in an interview with Fox News on Sunday.

House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) has tapped Greene to head up the new committee, which was conceptualized by tech entrepreneur Elon Musk and former businessman Vivek Ramaswamy. The two businessman were tasked with heading up the “Department Of Government Efficiency,” or “DOGE,” by President-elect Trump a little over a week after his re-election bid.

Greene’s committee will work with the two on carrying out the department’s tasks, which, according to Ramaswamy, will consist of massive cuts to several departments and the outright elimination of several federal agencies.

During an appearance on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Greene provided an early look at some of the committee’s first priorities, which includes the reduction or outright cancellation of funding for National Public Radio (NPR).

“We’ll be looking at everything from government-funded media programs like NPR that spread nothing but Democrat propaganda, we’ll be going into grant programs that fund things like sex apps in Malaysia, toilets in Africa,” she told host Maria Bartiromo. […]

Trump Officially Flips Blue County Red for First Time in Over 30 Years https://redwave.press/just-in-trump-officially-flips-blue-county-red-for-first-time-in-over-30-years/ https://redwave.press/just-in-trump-officially-flips-blue-county-red-for-first-time-in-over-30-years/#respond Sat, 23 Nov 2024 12:22:50 +0000 https://redwave.press/just-in-trump-officially-flips-blue-county-red-for-first-time-in-over-30-years/ In a historic turn of events, Donald Trump has officially flipped Bucks County, Pennsylvania, a longtime Democratic stronghold, into the Republican column for the first time since 1988.

Final numbers confirm that Trump narrowly edged out Kamala Harris in the county, with 198,722 votes (49.39%) compared to Harris’s 198,431 votes (49.32%). The victory marks a pivotal shift in the political landscape of Bucks County, which had reliably supported Democratic candidates in every presidential election for over three decades.

The last Republican to carry the county was George H.W. Bush during his successful bid for the presidency 36 years ago. Local Republican leaders celebrated the win as a testament to grassroots organizing and a strong message of change resonating with voters.

Bucks County GOP took to social media to share their excitement, stating, “It’s official! The final numbers are in. Donald Trump has won #BucksCounty! This is the first time since 1988 that Bucks County has voted for a Republican for President! We’re immensely proud of our committee members, volunteers, and grassroots groups that all worked together to achieve this historic victory!”

The victory in Bucks County reflects a growing trend in Pennsylvania, a key battleground state where rural and suburban voters played a crucial role in deciding the outcome of the election. Trump’s campaign strategy focused heavily on economic issues, energy independence, and opposing perceived government overreach, themes that appeared to resonate deeply with Bucks County residents. Longtime Swing State Has a GOP Supermajority for First Time in 50 Years https://redwave.press/new-longtime-swing-state-has-a-gop-supermajority-for-first-time-in-50-years/ https://redwave.press/new-longtime-swing-state-has-a-gop-supermajority-for-first-time-in-50-years/#respond Fri, 22 Nov 2024 13:01:43 +0000 https://redwave.press/new-longtime-swing-state-has-a-gop-supermajority-for-first-time-in-50-years/ As the once-unpredictable battlegrounds of the midwest continue to trend rightward at the national level, so too do some of the region’s state legislatures.

Iowa, both the launching pad and tomb of countless Republican candidates, once challenged Ohio for the position of most critical midwestern swing state. Today, the Hawkeyes and Buckeyes are united behind the GOP, and not just President-elect Donald Trump. The Iowa Republican Party has seen a swelling in its ranks as lawmakers on Wednesday declared that they had secured the first legislative supermajority in 54 years.

“Iowa House Republicans have received a mandate from the people of Iowa,” wrote State Representative Austin Harris, whose district covers southern portions of the state. “We have a historic opportunity to think big and act boldly. And we will deliver!” The supermajority will allow Republicans to effectively govern unencumbered by bipartisan overtures or backroom dealmaking; instead, Republicans in the State Assembly and State Senate may pass party-line bills to the desk of Kim Reynolds, Iowa’s Republican governor, or override her veto if it comes to that.

Some of the final races making the outcome official were formalized in communities like Dubuque and Marshalltown where Democratic incumbents fell prey to a wave of MAGA votes who helped deliver 55.7% of the vote for Trump, the largest share for any presidential candidate since Richard Nixon in 1972. Before the November 5th election, Republicans had already secured a supermajority in the state Senate, where they still added two seats. In the House, Republicans held 64 of the 100 seats heading into Election Day, 5 News reported. Now, the party appears to have taken three more seats after all votes were counted. […]

Ted Cruz Set to Gain Powerful Position on Capitol Hill https://redwave.press/new-ted-cruz-set-to-gain-powerful-position-on-capitol-hill/ https://redwave.press/new-ted-cruz-set-to-gain-powerful-position-on-capitol-hill/#respond Wed, 20 Nov 2024 11:08:18 +0000 https://redwave.press/new-ted-cruz-set-to-gain-powerful-position-on-capitol-hill/ Long a lightning rod for partisan debate, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) is on the verge of wielding sweeping authority as the incoming chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. Fresh off his reelection victory, Cruz is set to leverage this powerful position to shape the nation’s regulatory landscape, with Republicans now in control of the Senate.

The committee’s purview—spanning telecommunications, transportation, and energy—offers Cruz a stage to champion his vision of limited government and unfettered markets. From regulating commercial space exploration to confronting antitrust issues involving tech giants, the committee will give Cruz a high-profile platform to advance his legislative priorities.

“Being the chairman of the commerce committee comes with an incredible amount of power,” said Kevin DeGood according to the Houston Chronicle. DeGood is the director of infrastructure policy at the Center for American Progress. “Their mandate is so wide, Sen. Cruz could hold hearings on almost any topic he likes and use that to advance his own conservative agenda.”

During his victory speech in Houston, Cruz made clear his intentions to pursue a bold agenda. “We must defend our God-given rights, not some of them, not most of them, but all of them,” he said. Border security, energy independence, and what he calls “Americans’ freedoms” are at the forefront of his platform.

“Senator Cruz has brought a lot of attention to the power of the tech companies on our lives,” said Cody Venzke, senior policy counsel at the ACLU. “But we don’t always see eye to eye. One of the things reinforcing tech’s power is how they’re abusing our data, and Sen. Cruz’s success as chair will hinge on addressing that.” […]
