The GOP is now one seat away from winning the House of Representatives.

Democratic Rep. Yadira Caraveo, who represents Colorado’s 8th Congressional District, conceded her race to Republican challenger Gabe Evans on Sunday.

The congresswoman’s campaign issued a statement Sunday afternoon thanking supporters, staff and family, saying that she would finish her term.

“It’s been the honor of a lifetime to serve the people of Colorado’s 8th district. I came to Congress to get things done, and have spent the last two years working to find common ground and bipartisan solutions to the most pressing issues facing our community,” she said in her statement. “I would like to thank my family, staff, volunteers, and supporters who believed in this campaign and the vision we set out to achieve. Together, we built a diverse, people-powered campaign that brought together a coalition of Democrats, Republicans, and unaffiliated voters. While this isn’t the outcome we had hoped for, the work is not over. I look forward to returning to Washington to finish out this term and will continue to be an independent voice for the people of this district.”

Evans also thanked supporters, as well as God, his family and campaign staff, in a statement.

“I am incredibly humbled to be chosen as the next Congressman for Colorado’s 8th. It is debatable whether that newfound cooperation can encompass more than just infrastructure grants, especially after New York Attorney General Letitia James promised “fight back once again” against a Trump administration just as it has against Trump as a private citizen, Fox News noted.

“It was a very cordial call, and listen, I said I’ll work with anybody,” Hochul said in Puerto Rico Friday, according to Politico. She said the phone call was just basic political goodwill, noting that she ”basically just reaffirmed there are areas we can work together, like infrastructure, where we rely on federal money, and he seems to share my priorities.”

New York state needs federal funding for a variety of projects, especially for its semiconductor plant near Syracuse. House Speaker Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) has put that cooperation in jeopardy. Hochul is committed to extending the Second Avenue Subway in Manhattan and to major upgrades to Penn Station, a busy but outdated transit hub. “I want Penn Station to be something that we’re all proud of. I said it can be beautiful. And he agreed,” she said of Trump.

Trump wants to turn New York City and the state away from being captives to government money. But he could be on a collision course with Hochul who said she will be “unrelenting in protecting the rights of New Yorkers.” The city council is increasingly at odds with the governor over the status of illegal immigrants in NYC. The Wall Street actor appeared Friday on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, where the episode revolved almost entirely on Trump’s stunning victory over Kamala Harris.

Rep. Dean Phillips, D-Minn., a guest on Fox News Sunday with Shannon Bream, said his voice and tens of millions of other Americans’ voices were ignored, suppressed and disenfranchised in this year’s presidential election. He announced in October 2023 that he was entering the Democratic primary race against President Joe Biden and in November that he was giving up his House seat after three terms. He said his voice was ignored.

Phillips was one of a very few Democrats who called on Biden to drop out of the race and make room for a new generation, months before that actually happened. “My voice, yes, was ignored, but tens of millions of Americans’ voices were ignored and suppressed and disenfranchised,” Phillips said, according to The Hill.

“I was not the only one that recognized what was likely to happen last week. I was the only one that was willing to say it live, and I think it is that culture of silence and pervasive incentives in our political system that is really costing our country and it’s not unique to one party or the other,” he said.

“No party has monopoly on ideas and I’m one of those getting sick and tired of it, trying to represent what I call the exhausted majority, center right, center left Americans who deserve better,” he said. […]

Saturday saw another day of rage and finger-pointing among Democrats after the crushing Election Day loss delivered to Vice President Kamala Harris by now-President-elect Donald Trump.

What was primarily rage against the American people for being too “stupid” to support Harris has now morphed into an intra-party circular firing squad, replete with plenty of angry finger-pointing.

Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who’s as left-wing as they come, issued a blistering statement on Wednesday, the day after the election. Sanders not only blamed Harris’ “disastrous” campaign for the historic loss; he also accused the Democrats of “abandoning working-class people.”

Sanders posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the historic loss should “come as no great surprise” after substantial numbers of working-class voters — first the white working class and then the Latino and black working classes — looked to Trump for help. Homan, who has been vigorously loyal to President Trump during and after his first term, has worked with six presidents during his long career.

He recently sparked controversy, at least among leftwing snowflakes, for comments he made during a 60 Minutes interview. When asked by CBS reporter Cecilia Vega whether illegal aliens could be deported without separating families, Homan stated that it is indeed possible. “Families can be deported together,” he said.

Homan also rejected the notion that deporting illegal aliens would be harmful to immigrants, though he did note that “it should be threatening to the illegal immigrant community.” He also stated that the mass deportation of illegal aliens is necessary due to the record-setting, civilization-altering number of illegal immigrants admitted to the country under the Biden-Harris Administration.

Since President Biden took office, nearly 10-million illegal aliens have entered the United States, surging past records in the fiscal years 2022 and 2023.

On day one, Trump plans to reinstate a number of immigration executive orders that were rescinded by President Biden on his first day in January 2021. Among the orders planned by Trump is the reintroduction of the popular Remain in Mexico policy, which required asylum seekers to wait outside the country while their asylum claims are processed.

The Biden Administration has instead opted for a catch and release policy, under which illegal aliens are released and oftentimes transported to locations of their choosing within the U.S. interior.

Trump’s promises to secure the border and deport illegal aliens are among the many reason his messages resonated with the American electorate. The border crisis under the Biden-Harris regime has become so bad that even lifelong Democrats have had to side with the Trump plan for the sake of self-preservation.

On Election Day, voters backed up that sentiment.

Eight states had citizen-only voting initiatives on their ballots Nov. 5. These initiatives passed by wide margins in each state.

Separately, a measure in Santa Ana, California, that would have opened the door for non-citizens to vote in citywide elections was soundly defeated.

“Voters in eight states sent a very clear and unmistakable message: Only citizens should vote,” Paul Jacob, a board member at Americans for Citizen Voting, said. “Every ballot measure passed by whopping margins.” […]

In a post on X, Hagerty acknowledged that President-elect Donald Trump’s “massive coattails delivered a historic Republican Senate majority.” Hagerty noted that “any leader” in the new Republican majority would need to be able to “work hand-in-hand” with Trump, and added that he would be voting for Scott for the position.

US Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Jack Smith as special counsel to investigate whether criminal charges should be filed against Trump in November 2022 just one day after Trump announced a 2024 White House run.
